Testimonial by KLU-STUDENT Thierry Biwer

Dear Logistics enthusiasts,

First let me present myself. My name is Thierry Biwer, I am 24 years old and was born and raised in Luxembourg.

After graduating in 2010 from the high school “Athenée de Luxembourg” in Luxembourg, I moved to Paris. I lived there for four years and graduated from “Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne University” with a B.Sc. degree in Economics and Management and a M.Sc. degree in Financial Management.

During my studies in France, among others, I did two internships in the financial industry (banking and audit). Even though I only saw a small part of that industry I knew that there was something else, which could give me that desired extra boost. Economics and Management were always great interests for me but I wished to be involved in a more operational part.

Since my background in Management can be perfectly associated with different industries, I decided to combine it with logistics studies. However, before committing myself to the upcoming steps, I wanted to complete an internship in that particular field. For this I chose two companies specialized in airfreight transportation. It was a great experience and I felt very comfortable with the working environment. For me it felt like the right choice so I applied for a M.Sc. program in logistics.

In 2014, I started the M.Sc. program in Global Logistics at the “Kühne Logistics Univerity (KLU)” in Hamburg.  I actually had the choice between the “Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam” and the KLU. I finally made up my decision based on the organizational characteristics of the university and the city of Hamburg, as a global player in maritime transportation.

Call for a Logistics Students Network

In fact, university life at the KLU is like a second family. It merely counts 250 students, divided in one B.Sc. program (Management) and two M.Sc. programs (Management and Global Logistics). Both the closeness to the professor and the facilities are outstanding.

Furthermore, the professors have very strong knowledge of logistics and supply chain since most of them worked in the corporate world at some point.

During the studies at the KLU we have the opportunity to complete an exchange semester at one of the partner universities located all over the world. I chose to do mine in Ningbo, China, which is a two-hour train ride away from Shanghai.

Since Luxembourg is aiming to evolve towards an important and strategic location for international logistics companies, more and more specialists are needed in our country to keep up with the fierce competition.

Together with the “Cluster for Logistics Luxembourg”, we want to build up a logistics student network. Currently, no such student association exists in Luxembourg. We think this would be a primordial channel that could motivate further students to consider this field. We want to connect them so that they can exchange experiences and share interests.

It would be great if we all could contact other Luxembourg students studying logistics or attracted by this sector and interest them in joining our community.

This way, we hope to encourage more students to choose logistics as it plays an interesting and crucial role in any industrial company.

For further information, please feel free to contact me. I would be glad to talk about my studies and give you as much advice as I can. For upcoming events stay tuned at the “Clusters for Logistics Luxembourg” website.
