The Cluster for Logistics Luxembourg was pleased to welcome members of the logistics community on Tuesday, 21 October 2025, to its Autumn Conference dedicated to Air Freight and Road Feeder Services.
The event, titled “The Future of Air Freight”, brought together leading stakeholders from the air and road transport sectors to explore the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of these industries. C4L Director Daniel Kohl welcomed the 70 guests who attended the conference at the Chamber of Commerce Luxembourg.
Speakers shared insights on emerging trends, innovative solutions, and strategic initiatives designed to enhance the competitiveness of air freight and optimize road feeder services in Luxembourg and the Greater Region.
The Cluster for Logistics Luxembourg extends its gratitude to Yuriko Backes, Minister of Mobility and Public Works, for her message broadcasted to the audience. In her address, the Minister reaffirmed her commitment to the continued development and strategic importance of Luxembourg Airport.
As part of the event, the Cluster also presented awards to the top students of the Diplôme de Technicien en Logistique for the academic year 2024/2025. This year’s recipients - Julie Constroffer (1TCGL), Svenja Feltz (2TCGL), Jephte Mukanda (3TCGL), and John Luzayamo (3TCGL) - were recognised for their outstanding performance and received a gift voucher in acknowledgment of their achievement.

Peter Malanik, Managing Director of Aviation Industry Austria, shared insights into the future of the aviation sector. He noted that Airbus projects the global aircraft fleet to nearly double within the next 20 years - from 24,730 aircraft at the end of 2024 to 49,210 by 2044.
Focusing on air freight growth, the Cluster welcomed representatives from Frankfurt Airport. Kristine Heinisch, Director Cargo Development at Fraport AG, forecasted a 50% increase in Frankfurt’s cargo volumes by 2040. Felix Toepsch, Executive Director of the Air Cargo Community Frankfurt e.V., emphasized the importance of moving from pure competition to greater collaboration within the sector.
Lucas Fernandez, VP Innovation & Insights - CHAMP Cargosystems, explored the concept of Supply Chain 3.0, highlighting the need for large-scale interoperability through ONE Record, control tower systems, and AI-supported supervision. He underlined the role of digital collaboration and generational change in driving innovation.
Dr. Volker Kassera, CEO and co-founder of iViation, presented the first autonomous aircraft operating in international airspace. The aircraft, capable of transporting three Euro-pallets, offers a 38% speed advantage compared to road transport and a 65% cost advantage in operating costs.
The conference concluded with a panel discussion featuring three key figures from Luxembourg’s air cargo ecosystem: Bernard Stoll (CEO, Luxcargo Handling), Ram Menon (COO, Wallenborn), and Joep Bruijs (SVP Global Logistics, Cargolux). The panelists discussed the impact of digital transformation, infrastructure sustainability, workforce evolution, and the importance of future collaboration across the industry.
