A. Company & Market Outlook
Q1. To begin, how would you describe the current state of the logistics market from your perspective as Managing Director?
The logistics market is very tight at the moment. Rising operating costs (fuel, personnel, etc.) are significantly impacting the progress of digitalization projects.
Q2. Looking ahead, what major trends do you believe will shape the industry over the next three to five years?
Furthermore, the digitalization of operations and the optimization of task execution remain priorities. The use of robots is increasingly being highlighted as a way to address labor shortages and constantly rising costs. Technology upgrades are also a driver of growth, as is cybersecurity.
Q3. Are there any market developments that you feel are still underestimated or overlooked by the industry?
In our field, innovation will involve the implementation of collaborative robots and workflow automation. This requires a trusted partner with the technical capability to deploy these complex, multidisciplinary technologies. The sector is also facing the electrification of truck and delivery vehicle fleets; this could lead to infrastructure issues unless public authorities initiate national (or European) action plans now to expand charging networks.
B. Company Strategy & Future Development
Q4. What are the strategic priorities your company is focusing on right now?
We continue to make technology accessible and put it to work for our logistics clients; this involves the continuous training of our staff and close collaboration with our partners who manufacture handheld terminals.
The growth in revenue from software development also demonstrates the sector's strong demand for digitalization.
Q5. How do you balance long‑term transformation with the day‑to‑day operational pressures of the logistics business?
We must incorporate future changes into our day-to-day decisions. This has been 4i’s guiding principle in the Luxembourg market for nearly 30 years. It is the only way to remain proactive in the face of shifting winds.
C. Innovation, Digitalization & Technology
Q7. Digital transformation is reshaping logistics. Which technologies do you see as most impactful for your operations?
There is no doubt that the use of data acquisition systems is gaining significant momentum (Mobility devices, barcodes, RFID). AI tools are also a game-changer. However, it is important to note that these tools require proper oversight and must be aligned with a digital strategy to prevent things from getting out of hand.
Q8. How do you ensure that innovation translates into real value for customers and employees?
Talking about innovation is easy; actually placing innovation at the heart of corporate policy is another matter.
Change takes time. Each process modification must be analyzed and phased in order to understand its impact on the value chain.
Q9. Is there a recent digital or automation project you’re particularly proud of? What results have you seen so far?
We recently helped a long-standing client
—a major logistics company
—launch a new service for their own customers. This involved goods receiving, storage, and order fulfillment for shipments across Europe.
Using our standard 4Check product, we proposed a paperless workflow featuring real-time integration with their WMS/ERP system. The client was initially skeptical, as the move required a shift in their staff's mindset. We decided to proceed together, and the solution’s rollout
—involving over 100 people
—has been a complete success. The project required training, changes to work habits, and seamless collaboration with the client.
D. Sustainability & ESG, CSRD & Lean & Green
Q10. Sustainability is becoming a competitive factor. How is your company integrating ESG, CSRD, Lean & Green into its strategy?
Our employees and clients are at the heart of our mission. That has always been the case. We conduct our governance accordingly.
Q11. What concrete steps are you taking to reduce emissions or improve resource efficiency?
We strive to provide solutions and products that we can repair ourselves. This has always been part of our service philosophy, and it is something for which we are valued.
In our operations, we use paperless digital tools and are committed to electrifying our vehicle fleet.
Q12. Do you see sustainability as a cost, an opportunity, or both?
Both!
But beyond necessity, it creates business opportunities and new business.
E. Workforce, Skills & Leadership
Q13. The logistics sector faces a talent shortage. How are you addressing this challenge?
What exactly is "talent"? Someone needs to explain it to me! I read in the press that we are recruiting people from outside Europe at exorbitant costs. I don't think that's necessary. It’s a broader debate that touches on the human relationship with work. I’m not a politician.
Q14. Which skills do you believe will be most important for the logistics workforce of the future?
Flexibility is a major asset. Juggling the various multidisciplinary aspects is complicated. I won't say any more, as this ties in with my previous answer.
Q15. From a leadership perspective, what principles guide you in navigating uncertainty and rapid change?
Be flexible, available, and attentive to clients. Stay up to date!
F. Collaboration & Ecosystem Development
Q16. How important are partnerships whether with clusters, startups, or research institutions for your company’s innovation and growth?
We all interact with one another. We each have our own areas of expertise. Clusters and other institutions facilitate effective exchange.
Q17. What types of collaboration do you believe the logistics ecosystem needs more of?
We need to collaborate with schools to train young people in a sector with a promising future.
Q18. How can our cluster better support your company and the broader industry?
For us, the Cluster is already a great help in terms of visibility and keeping us informed about developments in Luxembourg and the Greater Region.
G. Customer Expectations & Service Evolution
Q19. How have customer expectations changed in recent years, and how are you adapting to them?
There is less staff in our clients' logistics departments. Yet, demands are increasingly high, with requests for immediate action
—jobs needed "yesterday." It is up to us to adapt!
Q20. What does “excellent customer experience” mean in logistics today?
I order a product, I am kept informed of the order's progress, and I receive delivery on time, in the right quality and quantity.
Q21. Are you seeing new customer segments or demands emerging?
Not particularly
H. Future Opportunities & Vision
Q22. Where do you see the biggest growth opportunities for your company in the coming years?
As previously mentioned, providing mobility solutions is a growth driver for us. This involves software solutions designed to improve field operations.
Q23. What excites you most about the future of your company and the industry?
Engaging with clients and addressing their need for competitiveness. Continuing to learn about new technologies, testing them, and making them accessible. Helping clients keep delivering
—it’s very exciting. There are no limits.
